Should I Buy an Interchangeable Knitting Needle Set?

Short Answer: Yes. Long Answer: Definitely.

An interchangeable circular knitting needle set is a gamechanger for almost any type of knitter. Whether you make hats, sweaters, scarves, or even socks, these sets allow you to make all sorts of patterns without have to dig through your knitting needle collection.

Read the rest of the article for five benefits of circular knitting needles and some suggestions for the top rated sets.

Less Strain on your body

Knitting doesn’t exactly sound like an activity that puts stress on your body, but it does! Knitting with circular needles allows you to rest your work (and arms) on your lap instead of the needles. You hands, wrists, and shoulders all take a break when you have something to rest your work on. Of course, any circular knitting needles allow this to happen, so you don’t exactly need an interchangeable set to reap this benefit.

Stay Organized

Turn your messy pile of knitting needles into an organized set.

Most interchangeable circular knitting needles even come with a pouch making it even easier to stay organized. Not only can the needles stay together, but they stay in order from smallest to largest quite easily making your search for the right size much faster. An interchangeable set also allows you to have circular needles of any length so you can even knit yourself a large blanket using them.

Knit in the round and flAT

Circular knitting needles can be used for flat knitting projects as well!

Most people think of hats and socks when they think about grabbing a set of circular needles, but did you know you can use circular needles as straight needles for any projects? It’s almost as if you don’t need straight needles at all! Plus, you can actually knit larger projects with a lengthy cord than you can with straight knitting needles. Most sets allow you to combine the cords for even larger projects.

Skip the purls and knit faster!

My personal favorite of circular knitting needles is the fact that knitting in the round allows you to produce a clean stockinette without purling! Purling slows me and, chances are, it slows you down as well. With circular needles you can knit an entire beanie using just knit stitches. If that is something that excited you just as much as it does me, check out our double brimmed beanie pattern here.

Save some Money

An interchangeable circular knitting needles set may seem like an expensive buy. And it is. But the money you save from having one set instead of continuing to purchase a new needle size and length for every single project. If you are just starting out and do not know whether this will be a long-term hobby then purchasing one size at a time may make sense for you, as the starting costs can be kept quite low. But if you are in this for the long haul then save yourself some time and money by purchasing everything you need with a one time purchase!
